For three weeks beginning June 19, Project TEMBO and TEMBO Trust are running an inaugural English Camp program for the Secondary School girls we sponsor. These girls are struggling to learn English, the language of instruction at the Secondary level, since this is a third language for most of them. (Their first is Maa, the language spoken at home; then Swahili, used at Primary School.) TEMBO’s objective is to have an intensive three week fun English program, focusing on conversation and getting the girls comfortable speaking. Project TEMBO Board members Marian Roks and Virginia Taylor will be coordinating the program which will include training Tanzanians to participate in running the program in the future. Both Marian and Virginia have extensive backgrounds in teaching English to children and adults.
