It is 6:30 a.m. and the sun is just coming up over Mt. Kilimanjaro. A giraffe saunters through the Acacia trees as I lace up my shoes. Today, I am walking to Oltepesi Primary School with Leah, a student in Class 4. We leave her boma hand-in-hand. Our feet pound the dry earth leaving a dusty trail behind us. Just moments later we are joined by two other girls, and then 3 boys. Soon our ‘walking club’ will include 20 or more children, all of whom walk over an hour to get to school.
We all walk with a purpose!
Every day, women and girls in Longido walk long distances to complete everyday tasks:walking to collect water, walking to the market or walking to school.
We invite you to walk, run or cycle in your community and raise funds to support life-changing programs for women and girls in Longido.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 with the support of walkers, runners and cyclists.
