“My Home in Northern Tanzania”
The TEMBO Guesthouse truly feels like my home in the little village of Longido. I stayed at the guesthouse for 3 weeks and loved every moment of it. The staff is incredible and do everything they can to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Nusra makes delicious traditional Tanzanian meals and I still crave her cooking. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable and the beverages are cold (there is a fridge that is kept stocked). The bathrooms have showers with hot water (the staff will also prepare a hot bucket shower if the hot water runs out) and flush toilets with toilet paper. You will have all of the necessary comforts of home while still enjoying authentic Tanzanian culture and hospitality. If you are a light sleeper I suggest bringing ear plugs as the donkeys can be quite loud at times. – Jenna L. Nov. 2015
“A friendly and welcoming stay..”
A trip to Tanzania is not complete without a side trip up to Longido. I am planning a trip back to Tanzania solely to return to the TEMBO guesthouse. We stayed here for 4 nights after finishing our Safari – only an hour’s dalla dalla ride from Arusha. The town is lovely and relaxing compared to Arusha and full of friendly people. It instantly felt like we were at home – the staff are so friendly and the atmosphere is so welcoming. Dinner is communal – lots of opportunity to sit and chat with other guests over a delicious home cooked meal – with fruit and tea/coffee for afters! They were also super accommodating for vegetarian food. Sitting in the circular seating area around the tree in the evenings was a highlight.
The staff also helped us arrange a cultural Maasai tour to the cave and bomas – as well as to the weekly cattle market (definitely recommended) on Saturday, and a hike up Longido Mountain.
The guesthouse is also part of Project TEMBO which is doing great work in the local community – which was great to see.
If we ever find ourselves in Arusha again we will definitely make a point of coming up to Longido to stay here again..! – Harriet B. Jan. 2015
“Friendly staff, welcoming guest house and property, clean”
We stayed at the Tembo Guesthouse for six nights. The guesthouse is clean and inviting. The rooms have two single beds (quite comfortable) and mosquito nets. The rooms and bathrooms are around the perimeter of the building. The dining and common room is in the centre of the building. There are a couple of lovely sitting areas outside. The backdrop for the guesthouse is beautiful Mount Longido. The guesthouse property is fenced and there is a security guard on site. We were very comfortable here. There is limited water pressure and limited warm water but this is all very manageable. – Cheryl F. Feb. 2016
