Donations

No donation is too small. Consider this:
$30.00 will buy one rooster and two hens, or $40.00 a goat;
$20.00 pays tuition and fees for a girl in secondary school for a month.

Donor Information
How much of my donation goes towards project work? - We are required by Revenue Canada to use 80% of the donations we receive directly on our projects. We hope to exceed that requirement and use closer to 90%. There are always administration costs, but these will be kept to a minimum.

Payment Options - We accept credit card donations through www.canadahelps.org, or cheque, or money order, payable to “TEMBO”. You can “target” your donation by specifying a particular project on the “memo” line of your cheque, e.g. sponsoring a student, a teacher, or helping fund a women's project. A "general" donation will ensure that your money is used where it is most needed. We invite you to consider joining the Hundred’s Group. By belonging to this, you ensure TEMBO project funding for the future.

The Hundred's Group - Having a reliable source of funding means that we can keep projects going from year to year. For instance, in addition to our projects for women, TEMBO provides sponsorships to as many students as we can each year at both Kimokouwa and Longido Primary Schools. For the school year beginning January 2006 and January 2007, this amounted to 20 students each year. Educational scholarships to secondary school graduates to become certified teachers were eight in 2006 and eight in 2007. By joining the Hundreds Group, you will help ensure that there is no shortfall in funding to any of our projects. TEMBO is looking for 100 people to make a $100.00 donation each year for the next four years. This can also be done by sending monthly cheques for smaller amounts, a yearly cheque, or by credit card at www.canadahelps.org (click to make a donation).

Christmas Giving and Seasonal Celebrations – You can give a very unique gift that will make a lasting difference in someone’s life. For example, send a girl to school for a year for $250.00; buy two hens and a rooster for $30.00, or a chicken for $10.00, or a goat for $40.00 for a woman’s small business; or buy a book for $25.00 for the community library. Please fill out this form and return it to us with your donation. We will send you a special gift card, describing your gift, to send to the recipient.

Donations for Special Occasions - You can make a donation to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, memorial or other event. Please fill out this form and return it to us with your donation. Project TEMBO will send a letter to the recipient acknowledging your generous donation.

About CanadaHelps.org - CanadaHelps.org is a registered Canadian charity that provides a valuable service to other registered Canadian charities by processing online credit card transactions. This means we can devote more time to other aspects of our project work and save on administrative costs. Once you designate an amount, you will have many options, including frequency of payment, and how you would like your money directed.

US Donors - We welcome donations from our supporters in the US. For information about receiving income tax receipts, please contact us at tembo.ca@sympatico.ca

Currency - The currency used in Tanzania is either Tanzania Shillings (TSH) or US dollars (USD). All amounts mentioned on this web site are in US dollars. To pay the actual project amount (listed on our website in US dollars), you can check the current rate here: http://www.accu-rate.ca/.

Income Tax Receipts - Income tax receipts will be issued within two weeks for donations over $10.00. If you donate by credit card through www.canadahelps.org, you will receive an income tax receipt directly from them.
